About us
We are a Non-Profit Organization based in Oceanside Ca.
Tru Humanz Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization based in Oceanside, California. Our Mission is to provide financial aid and supportive guidance for people with substance use disorders to enter treatment and recovery programs. We exist to raise awareness and to support those in the substance use recovery community. We know this can be the most difficult time in the lives of many people and we strive to be another resource for those who need it the most. Tru Humanz welcomes contact from people living with substance use disorders (SUDs), their families, and friends. We provide supportive guidance through the treatment and recovery system, and provide direct financial support to people continuing or enrolling in treatment programs.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse reported that 20.4 million U.S. adults were living with substance use disorders in 2022. A disproportionately high number of Californians meet the criteria for substance use disorders, with the number over the past 5 years to include 800,000 new people facing addiction. According to the California HealthCare Foundation, 9% of all Californians now meet the criteria for a substance use disorder; that’s a record number of 3.5 million people.
Despite the year over year increases in diagnosable SUDs, fewer and fewer people are seeking treatment options. In 2019, 155,000 Californians entered into SUD treatment programs, with the number dropping to 119,000 Californians in 2020, and dropping further to 115,000 Californians in 2021 (SAMHSA; Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). The health care system is moving toward acknowledging substance use disorders as chronic illnesses, yet only about 10% of people diagnosed with an SUD in the last year received treatment nationally. In California, this figure is even lower: Only 3% of our neighbors living with substance use disorders received treatment.
Our Vision is to create a community safety net of recovery, respect, dignity, and hope throughout Southern California and beyond. Our Goal is to break through societal and financial barriers to provide lifesaving funds and access to resources when they are needed, without delay. This process includes forming extensive networks with regional inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, sober living communities, and other crisis and recovery lifelines. Nationally, 20% of adults with substance abuse disorders report that they don’t know where to get help. Of those who have adequate access to healthcare options, and health insurance coverage, and who overcome societal stigmas and mental health struggles to visit their physician to receive an alcohol or drug dependence diagnosis, less than half go on to receive an initial treatment visit within 2 weeks (California HealthCare Foundation).
The barriers to treatment are significant and the road to recovery is often difficult to navigate. Treatment programs range widely in cost; outpatient detox programs cost an average of $1,500, outpatient recovery programs range from $5,000 to $10,000 for a 90-day program, and inpatient recovery programs range from $6,000 to $60,000 for a 30-day, 60-day, or 90-day program (The Addiction Center). Additionally, people living with substance use disorders face the more widespread cost of addiction: unemployment, mental health struggles, legal issues, social isolation, and homelessness often provide devastating challenges to those already struggling with the pain of addiction.
Tru Humanz Inc. is contacted every week by local people living with substance use disorders, their friends, and their families. We are a small and growing local organization, where 100% of tax-deductible donations go directly to funding the recovery of our neighbors in desperate need. We aim to disrupt this system by quickly helping people in need access appropriate behavioral health recovery programs. We strive to empower each person to find the hope to heal, rebuild their lives, and begin moving forward in productive and positive ways. We are compassionately dedicated to building a healthy and energetic environment of recovery, together as a community.
